Should I get a cold mist humidifier or a warm mist humidifier?
Is there a difference in benefits? I don’t know which one I should get. Does any one have advice? I had a Vicks brand cold mist humidifier which I liked very much. But It didn’t have an on/off switch, so I had to unplug it from the outlet to turn it on and off which was very inconvenient. So I took it back and bought one that had an on/off switch. I don’t remember the brand name. But it leaked because it was the kind that you had to turn the reservoir upside down onto the base. Those who have experience with humidifiers will know what I’m talking about. I am looking for one that I can pour the water directly into the tank like the Vicks brand and has an on/off switch. I tried to look on the internet for the Vicks brand that had an on/off switch and the kind of tank that won’t leak. Can anyone recommend a humidifier that fits the criteria I want? And someone please explain the difference between a cold and warm mist humidifier. Thanks!
A cold mist is very safe and effective but usually requires the replacement of an expensive filter..
Warm mist is very effective but has health risks…If you have a bad cold, a warm mist can actually help the cold turn into pneumonia…
And the warm mist will get a buildup of water hardness and need to be cleaned quite often…(best cleaned with a weak white vinegar solution or CLR)…
So it’s your choice…Do you want a humidifier that is totally safe but you have to replace a filter ? Or do you want one that is cheap to run but “may” cause health problems ?
