8 month old has a terrible chest cold- Vicks rub ok or no?
I brought my daughter into the ER for a chest cold where she tested positive for RSV. I’ve been following all the instructions. She has a humidifier, is clothed comfortably, bed is elevated to relieve congestion, fan is on, lots of liquids. But she’s so congested, I want her to have some relief. Is Vick’s ok, or should I not use it? I am waiting to hear back from the on call nurse at her pediatrician, as the office is closed today but I always like to get opinions from other parents…
I’m doing the saline drops and the bulb… I thought she would be in the hospital too but they said since she is older than 6 months it isnt’ neccessary…? I’ve been very worried.
I would not use the Vicks that adults use. Instead use the Baby Vicks, or better yet Johnson’s makes a line of Vapor Bath and Vapor Rubs that are special for babies. I used to use these with my children and they helped them feel somewhat better. WalMart and most pharmacies make thier own brands of these that would be in the baby aisle right next to the Johnson’s products.
