I own an ultrasonic humidifier and am concerned about the white dust?

It is filter free, physician recommended. My concern is that the white dust is everywhere. It collects on my tv screens mostly and wood furniture. I have to clean everyday! The companies that make these products claim they reduce colds and flu, hay fever symptoms also. If the white dust collects on surfaces, we are breathing it, what is it doing to our lungs? I must admit I have not had headaches or dry cough and the humidity it adds to the air seems to help me breath better. The Q remains though, are they safe?
I have read the manual and it says to use cool tap water. If i use distilled water that means buying a heck of a lot of water to keep it running. i wonder if filtered tap water would be cleaner, maybe i’ll try that..

The dust is actually minerals from your tap water. It is harmless, but kind of a pain to clean from the sounds of it. If you use distilled water you won’t have the dust, it will extend the life of your humidifier, and I’ll be willing to bet the manual specifically instructs you to use distilled water.
