Why won’t my water dragon eat?

I purchased a CWD almost 9 months ago. He was very active and seemed very healthy. I have a zoo med humidifier and the temperature is perfect. He has shade and a nice sized water feature to play in. He was doing fine eating small and medium sized crickets and then I introduced meal worms to his diet. He seemed to LOVE those. So, after a few weeks of the meal worms I tried to vary his diet again and feed him crickets. He won’t eat them. So, I didn’t panic. I just figured he would eventually eat them when he was ready. I tried other types of food: vegetables, fruits with color in them, etc. etc.. He absolutely won’t eat anything. He stopped eating the meal worms for a while too. Then he would eat one small one on his own. Now he hardly eats at all. Sometimes he can go days without even eating anything. I’ve even had to force feed him sometimes to get him to eat anything, which I do not like to do but I’m afraid he is going to die.

When he was eating regularly do you recall that he was going to the bathroom regularly? If he has not been regular, he may be impacted. Are you occasionally dusting his food with a calcium supplement? Low calcium levels in a lizard can result in metabolic bone disease. Symptoms of this illness are, general weakness and weight loss. What kind of meal worms did you feed your dragon? Sometimes a meal worm can harbor a parasite or even be toxic. When a healthy dragon has internal parasites, they stop feeding. I recommend that a vet do a complete exam on your dragon to pinpoint the issue.
