Anyone know anything about asthma as it relates to sickness, pneumonia and mycoplasma?
So yesterday my asthma started acting up and what I usually do for bad asthma is drink lots of coffee to open my airways and take my inhaler. Well it didn’t help at all. Like I could feel deep inside where it might have worked a bit but I still was struggling to breathe normally. Also Everytime I breathe in I cough. It hurts most of the time and sometimes I cough something up.
About 10 years ago I was diagnosed with asthma which was brought on my pneumonia. Also a few years after that I had severe mycoplasma for about 4 months. I’m wondering maybe it never went away and now it’s coming back?
I have a humidifier going which helps when I’m right up in it. I have a lot of leftover amoxicillin, should I just take that? I really wish I had my nebulizer.
It sounds like you are having an asthma exacerbation. You need to go see your doctor to get appropriate treatment. The treatment is usually with inhalers/nebs and oral Prednisone. Sometimes hospitalization is required if symptoms are severe. You should check your peak flow meter if you have one and let your doctor know your results.
The pneumonia 10 years ago did not cause your asthma. It made you have an exacerbation that led you to a doctor to be diagnosed. Mycoplasma pneumonia is the most common cause of “walking pneumonia” which is also known as atypical pneumonia. It usually produces a mild pneumonia in young people that does not limit their activity. It is treated with appropriate antibiotics. The symptoms of Mycoplasma pneumonia can be worse in people with asthma. The majority of people do not have any long term effects after the infection has resolved. It is unlikely that Mycoplasma has come back. There are very many respiratory infections that can produce similar symptoms. Most asthma exacerbations are precipitated by viral respiratory infections. You should not take Amoxicillin unless your doctor advises you so. NEVER take medications that weren’t prescribed to you. First of all, Amoxicillin will not help your problem, because it is not a bacterial infection. Several respiratory bacterial infections, such as Mycoplasma, are not even susceptible to Amoxicillin. Call your doctor. Good luck.
