How do Oxygen Concentrators (Respironics) work? We have just bought one for our mother.?
This is an electrically driven machine that synthesises Oxygen out of ambient air and provides this at a variable flow through a humidifier. For patients with low lung functon and an inability to process oxygen normally, external oxygen is administered for a prolonged duration. If one does not want to keep buying cylinders of O2 gas, there is an option to buy the Oxygen Concentrator machine. We are just a bit inquisitive to know how it exactly works and if the quality of Oxygen it gives out is the same irrespective of ambient atmospheric conditions.
I have both the cylinders & the converter & find they both work equally well.. Just make sure your mom knows how many liters pm the Dr wants her to be on..
With the converter I use a cannula,the thing that goes in your nose rather than the oxygen mask.Find it easier..
Best to have a small & a large oxygen cylinder in case of a power failure &/or your mom may need when going out..
