ball python humidity?
Every thing I read seems to have a slightly different answer. I have a baby ball python, only a few months old. For now he is in a 10 gallon cage. I monitor the humidity and by using a mini humidifier in the cage and misting twice a day I keep the humidity at about 50-60. The temp on the warm side is between 88 and 91, and the cool side is 78 and 85. Some people have told me that that is the perfect humidity, others have said that using a humidifier in such a small cage can cause mildew and problems with my snakes scales. As long as I keep the humidity levels right, I don’t see why the size of the cage would matter, but I’m not sure. All input would be appreciated.
PS- I dont leave it on 24/7 i turn it off and on through out the day. when i turn it off for a hour or 2 it goes down to 35%. Then i flip it back on for awhile and it goes up to 50-60%. so thats the routine each day.
50-60 is great for a ball python. I have had mine around that for about 10 years now and he is doing great. That isn’t really high enough to create a mildew problem especially if you clean out the cage every couple weeks. You must live in a really dry environment to have to do all that to stay at that level of humidity. As long as the substrate isn’t wet and you are measuring the humidity close to the floor you shouldn’t have any problems.
