Childcare workers, what do you do to keep your kids from getting sick?
This year already, our preschool has had to shut down 3 times due to chicken pox/ flu/ rotovirus outbreaks. We use humidifiers and maintain 50% humidity, sterilized EVERYTHING (Including the toys, classroom supplies, as well as classroom furnature), ventilate twice a day by opening all the windows and doors, teach kids to wash hands and gargle everytime the go to the toilet. Kids bring their own lunches and use their own eating utensils. Parents and teachers are now so desprate most of the kids are wearing masks to school! Anyone else have such problems?
Interesting that many preschools are not taking these procautions to the extreme we are. I always did think all of this was a bit way over the top (I have ALWAYS questioned the gargling! But little good it is doing anyways!
You cannot do more then you already are. Young ones have very little immunity to viruses. You could stress the importance to the parents of giving the kids vitamins. Make sure the parents have used the same cleanliness routine you use at school. But lets face it. Little ones always have their fingers in their mouths and up their nose.
