Any mothers or fathers, with young children – Would love any help?

Hi there – we live in Sydney Australia and have a 22 month old boy. Would love some advice from a Mum or Dad…
He is a very healthy young man, but he seems to have a very bad reocurring cough that happens only at night. During the day he is perfectly ok, no signs of sickness and no cough – very strange.
But at night he seems to cough a great deal perhaps releasing phlem it seems chesty but sometimes dry too. It seems to happen very freqently throughout the night (maybe every 5-30 min). It is winter here and it is very cold as we live in a brick terrace house. He has the heater on very very mildly, so not to dry the air and is rugged up well, he seems warm whenever we check him, so this has me totally stumped. We have tried humidifiers and vapours but still have no idea what may be causing it.
Has anyone else experienced this with their child? We have mentioned this to a few doctors and they have been little help – Would love any input, and thanks in advance :)

I was going to suggest a humidifier. You say you’ve tried that, but maybe you should try it again.

I cough at night sometimes. Something about laying flat on my back makes me all congested! You might want to try a “wedge” pillow that keeps your son’s head considerably higher than his body. Sort of a half-sitting position. That helps me.
