Steam Humidifier – Your Best Choice
When your home suffers from low moisture levels during the dry winter months and there are respiratory issues of the residents, the doctors seem to recommend Steam Humidifier to boost the moisture level inside the house. Such humidifiers could be used for the personal comfort of the people. However, there are various types of humidifiers which include the “portable” or stand-alone models. Furthermore these portable models are available in two options: Cool Mist or Warm Mist.
Steam Humidifier or Steam Vaporizer is also known as warm mist humidifier and this device heat water and then release it into the air. Certain medications are also sometimes added to steam vaporizers for inhalation. Warm mist humidifiers are effective in helping to relieve problems of congestion. However such devices should be handled with proper care. Warm Mist humidifiers come in a several varieties. All are filled with water and use heat to make the water evaporate into the air. While buying a humidifier, the features that should be looked for include:
• Humidistat allows the humidifier to shut off once a certain level of humidity is reached. This feature help keep the room from becoming over-humidified.
• Auto-shutoff is important if the heating element stays on when the unit runs out of water.
• All humidifiers must be cleaned on a regular basis and this would discourage bacterial growth.
• Room size should be taken into consideration before buying a humidifier.
On the other hand cool mist humidifier is different from a Steam Humidifier. A cool Mist humidifier has a water tank which must be filled with water.Water passes through the unit to a separate compartment with a “wick” that is used to absorb the water. This wick is a large mesh-like material which has a lot of surface area, and is quite absorbent. Above this wick there is a fan which pulls air past the wick. Thus quite a bit of moisture is pulled from the wick into the air, where it is then blown by the fan into the room. This moisture is typically of room temperature or slightly cooler, thus these humidifiers are defined as cool mist humidifiers.
