Where is any place you can get a Spider Plant from during the winter months?
I am about to get parakeets and they need around 60% humidity. I researched that spider plants resperates releasing humidity into the atmosphere. I was recommended ferns as well, but they need humidity already in existence in order to thrive.
Humidifiers are dangerous for the sensitive lungs of birds, as are most household cleaners, metals, etc… so that is out of the question.
I live in a dry climate, mainly during the winter, in north western Indiana. Any idea where to purchase a spider plant this time of year? Walmart, Lowe’s, Menard’s, Meijers, don’t have anything.
Also, any suggestions of other plants that release humidity?
If you know anyone that has one, ask for one of its “babies”, they are really easy to grow. For increasing humidity around plants, we are told to set out trays of pebbles with water in them. The water gradually evaporates. So I’m thinking you could do this near the cages, possible near a heater or heat vent. You’d have to keep topping up the water of course.
