Aprilaire humidifier – service, replace completely, replace partly?
I have an Aprilaire Model 760 whole house humidifier. Its about 17 years old and the fan has started running very noisily. I need to get it fixed but the service call would cost me almost as much as a new unit and I expect they will just say I need a new unit anyway.
I would like to just replace the whole cover which includes the fan section (it snaps off/on very easily) and there’s no real installation to be done. I would be willing to buy a full unit to do this but it seems that the Model 760 that I have is now updated to Model 700. My question is, will that cover/fan fit the 760 or would I have to install the base part of it too?
Is it difficult to switch out the entire unit if needed? Should I have it done professionally?
i would just replace the whole thing…i dont know if if the new ones need the exact same size hole in the duct or not,but that isnt a problem…the new one will come with a paper template that is used to size up the opening needed……if the existing hole is too small,just cut it out to the new size with snips…if the old opening is too large,,just put a piece of sheet metal over it [sold at home depot],screw it in place and then cut the proper hole in the new metal…be sure to use short screws and check inside the existing hole to make sure your screws that will attach the new metal,and or the new humidifier,wont puncture anything such as the a-coil,,copper tubing,or a-coil drain pan….be sure the new humidifier is level,,doesnt have to be perfect but should be close in order for the water to flow to both sides evenly,,although i think the new humidifier’s distribution tray is designed to allow for it to be a little off if it turns out that way……dan
