Home cough remedies for toddlers?
My 20-month-old son is going through a cold. He is begining to feel better but he keeps on coughing at night, and it wakes him up. Do you know any safe home remedies for cough? I keep the humidifier running non-stop, and I use Vick’s baby rub on my son. My pediatrician told me not to worry about the cough right now (unless it gets really bad or lasts long). Is there anything to ease that dry nigh cough? Thank you.
What we usually do is the humidifier, the vicks and elevate the mattress. We stuff two pillows or more under the head of the mattress so they are sleeping semi-upright. The humidifier keeps the air from being too dry, sleeping upright helps keep the body upright and cut down on coughing, and the vicks can be quite soothing to him. Don’t let him get to hot because that can bring on the coughing fits. My son had lots of issues with this when he was younger and before we removed the carpet from his bedroom but we still stick to these basics any time one of our three have that dreaded nighttime cough. Make sure and push the fluids…water, juice anything he’ll drink.
