Has anyone made a homemade room humidifier?
I’ve purchased several “real” ones over the years and am kind of tired of the maintenance and purchase of distilled water. I’m just looking for a successful homemade version that somebody has had some luck with. One method I’ve heard of is putting a bowl of water in front of the register/exhaust vent. Any other ideas? It is for a small bedroom.

You are on the right track. Try getting one of the large filter wicks used for example in a Holmes Humidifier, and just stand it up in the bowl of water. So now the wick is bringing more water up into the path of the hot air stream. It’s what I do. I works OK
If the bowl is too small try using a flat bottom Turkey roasting aluminum pan — it’s made of heavy foil it cost about $1.85 at any supermarket.
