Guitars and humidity?
I want to get a new guitar (either Taylor 110 or Orpheus Valley Sophia) and its going to be my first real expensive purchase
however, I have no knowledge in taking care of it. I hear that you have to buy a humidifier but
1) how do I calculate the humidity in my room
2) should the guitar be kepted in a case when not played
3) will the humidifier make it hard for me to sleep? will additional humidity affect my body?
thank you for answering, best will review 10 pnts
do I need a hard shell case? or a gig bag will do?
The Taylor is a good guitar and have tried iot. This is the low end and what I don’t like about it is the quality of the wood they sometimes choose for the harmony table.
If oyu are going to buy it at Musician’s friend, I suggest trying out the Takamine guitar in that price range and compare the finish of both guitars. Takamine are well finished, low maintenance guitar and have a good re-sale value. The action is very smooth. Take all that in consideration when investing.
Also, for that money, I owuld get an acoustic electric in the Takamine quality. If Taylor have one for slightly more dollars, it is worth it since you can get an amp later on. Secondly, they are easier to re-sell, and thirdly, you will be heard much easier among 3 or 4 musicans in a band.
As for the humidity. Here is an old trick and works flawlessly. I worked 20 years in the music field. Just fill a small bowl of water and keep it close to the guitar. If their is a lack of humidity, the bowl will empty and just keep fillint it up. If their is enought humidity, the water will not evaporate. That little bowl will control the humitiy of your guitar.
Or , get a dampit and put it in the sound hole of the guitar. As for the case, get a hardshell case for the amount of money you are investing in.
Keep the guiar in the case when you are finish in case of accidents.; You do not need a humdifier. Get a guitar dampit. Period.
